Homes are most of what we do
Roughly half our callouts are domestic. A family with no power on a Sunday evening, a fuse box that won't stay reset, a socket that's started smelling near the kids' bedroom — that's a typical week, not a rare exception. Domestic work isn't squeezed in around commercial jobs; it's a core part of what the rota is built for.
Where domestic faults tend to start
- The consumer unit — usually in a hallway cupboard, under the stairs, or in a garage. Tripping, buzzing or warmth here is the single most common reason people call.
- Kitchens — cookers, extractors and the sheer number of sockets in daily use make this the room we see faults in most.
- Bathrooms — shaver sockets, extractor fans and lighting circuits, all in a room with strict wiring regulations for good reason.
- Children's bedrooms and playrooms — nightlights, chargers and the general wear of daily family life on sockets and switches.
Family safety comes first
If there are young children, elderly residents, or anyone on powered medical equipment in the property, tell us when you call — it moves you up the priority list. We'll also tell you plainly if any part of the house needs to be avoided until a fault is fixed, rather than leaving you to guess.
Renting? We can help with that too
If you're a tenant, we can attend and deal directly with you, then send the certificate and photographs to your landlord or letting agent afterwards. No need for the landlord to be present or to arrange the visit themselves.
The same standard, in your home
Every engineer carries a minimum of 18 years in the trade, current Part P registration, and full insurance for the work carried out. The supply is proved dead before anything is opened, the fault traced to its source, and the repair tested and certified before we leave.
Common Questions
Do you only do commercial work, or homes too?
Roughly half of what we do is domestic. Families with no power, a fuse box that won't stay on, a socket that's started smelling — that's most of a typical week, not an exception.
We have young children in the house. Does that change anything?
Yes — tell us when you call. Households with young children, elderly residents or anyone on powered medical equipment are moved up the priority list.
What are the most common domestic emergencies you attend?
Fuse boxes tripping and not resetting, no power to part of the house, sockets that spark or feel warm, and lighting circuits failing. Kitchens and bathrooms come up more than any other room.
Is it safe to stay in the house while you sort it?
Usually yes, once the affected circuit is isolated. We'll tell you clearly on the phone or on arrival if any part of the property needs to be avoided until the fault is fixed.
Can you attend a rented home if I'm the tenant, not the landlord?
Yes. We can also liaise directly with your landlord or agent and send the certificate and photographs straight to them if that's easier.
